So long, cowboy.
It’s official: The sixth season of FX’s Justified will be its last. Just a few days after rumors swirled through the internet that Justified could be ending after next season, FX’s president of programming John Landgraf confirmed the news Tuesday morning.
“It was [executive producer] Graham Yost and Timothy Olyphant‘s decision,” Landgraf revealed to a room full of repoters at the 2014 winter TCA press tour. “I would have liked to have had more Justified, it’s one of my favorite shows.”
The FX boss explained that although he is sad to see the series go, he would never want to creatively drag out a show past its prime.
Landgraf said that six seasons had been the Yost’s plan for the series for quite some time. “We talked about it a year ago; they felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be best served by six seasons instead of seven,” he said. “Regretfully, I accepted their decision.”
Justified‘s season-five premiere ratings were lower than anticipated; only 2.84 million viewers tuned into the first episode back, a 21 percent drop from the 3.59 who watched the season-four opener.
Don’t start shedding those tears just yet, Justifed fans! We’ve still got two full seasons of crimefighting fun with our weapon-heavy cast.
Justified airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
